Oil of Oregano Research

How to use Oil of Oregano: Take a drop or two under the tongue or add a few drops to juice or water, for children it blends well in milk.  Use topically on the skin or inhale the fumes. It is pungent and aromatic. The warm sensation when taken directly into the mouth is normal, as from garlic or cayenne pepper, and the warmth dissipates rapidly.

Oils of Oregano is a potent lymphatic tonic, increasing lymph flow, whether used topically or internally. The cleansing power of spice extracts are capable of destroying noxious cells, including viruses, parasites, bacteria, and fungi.  Oxidation destroys noxious germs and potential cancer cells.  Greek investigators, publishing in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, determined that oil of wild oregano even destroyed human cancer cells.  While spices may oxidize or destroy pathogens, amazingly, they also act as antioxidants for human cells, specifically for the fats of the human cell membranes.
Spice extracts stimulate metabolism, which enhances lymph flow. The lymph vessels/organs serve to gather and eliminate a wide range of harmful agents, including noxious germs, cancer cells, toxic chemicals and harmful proteins. The liver is a type of lymphatic organ.
Even Viruses are not immune to the oil's germicidal action.  In 1966, a study published in Medical Science Research found that Oil of Oregano destroyed viruses.  RNA and DNA viruses - including the types that cause shingles, cold sores, and genital herpes - were obliterated when exposed to the oil.  Apparently, Oil of Oregano shattered the viruses' outer coatings.  Other studies on bacteria indicate that potent phenols of Oil of Oregano are responsible for this viral cell-wall disintegration.  And yet, the oil is harmless to human cells.

Research Studies from the 'American College of Nutrition':

Here is a recent study done by Harry G. Preuss, MD and Vijaya Manohar, MSc. Ph.D and Dr. Cass Ingram, DO, from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Georgetown University  Medical Center, 3900 Reservoir Road, Washington DC, 20007.  Phone: 202-687-4294, Fax: 202-687-8788.

In the present study, we examine the antifungal properties of Origanum Oil and its major chemical constituent Carvacrol against Candida albicans,  a dimorphic yeast-like fungus.  Candida albicans which resides as commensal in the mucocutaneous cavities of skin, vagina and intestine of  humans, can cause many infections under altered physiological conditions such as infancy, pregnancy, diabetes, prolonged broad spectrum antibiotic, steroidal chemotherapy as well as AIDS.  We demonstrate here that the edible Origanum oil inhibits the growth of Candida albicans in vitro as well as in vivo.  We conclude that the daily oral administration of the edible oil of Origanum may be highly effective in prevention and treatment of candidiasis.
It has been believed that some of these compounds have antispasmodic and antioxidant activities, in addition to their antimicrobial potentials. It is interesting to speculate that secondary infections due to Candida albicans in the debilitated individuals such as those having diabetes and HIV infection may be prophylactically controlled by daily intake of small amounts of Oregano oil, either alone or added to a food.
In summery, the results from our study not only encourage examination of the efficiency of Origanum oil in other forms of systemic and superficial fungal infections, but also to explore its broad spectrum effect against other pathogenic manifestations including malignancy.
